  • September 2004: After returning from a YMCA Women's Yoga Retreat, Gail Grant decided that she wanted more connection with people who do yoga. Her original idea was to do more retreats, so she spoke with her two favorite yoga teachers, Jackie Long and Samantha Matthews, to see if they would be interested. Both were interested in the idea of more community.

  • January 2005: As Gail talked to other friends the idea grew beyond just "Yogis in the Woods" to local events that would not only include yoga but also encompass other things that yogis and yoginis might find interesting or useful. The original list included ways of healing, meditation, creative dance, teaching seminars/workshops and community yoga (a big yoga class followed by a potluck).

  • Early February 2005: Gail found the time and the software to enable her to gather input easily through the web. With input from Jackie and Sam, she developed a web survey to discover what people want/need and any gifts/talents they have to offer.  Jackie and Sam sent the info out to their mailing lists and flyers were placed at Avalon and other locations. Early results showed that people were most interested in Community Yoga: a yoga class followed by a potluck dinner.

  • Mid February 2005: After some discussions with the staff at St. Mark's, we came to an equitable agreement on use of the church's parish hall, a large hall with vaulted beamed ceilings and hardwood floors. We picked a date and Sam and Jackie decided to jointly teach the first class.

  • Late February 2005: We put up the registration form and advertised the Potluck.

  • Mid March 2005: We asked Marti Foster to join us as one of the "guiding gals."

  • Fall 2005: We discontinue paying instructors so that all funds go to charity.

  • Spring, 2006: Marti Foster retires from guiding gals.

  • Summer, 2006: We reach $3,000 in charity donations.
