There are two types of teachers in the community: yoga and non-yoga. While most of the information below pertains to yoga teachers, we also try to apply the principles to teachers of other disciplines, when possible.

We have a large number of yoga teachers in our community and several different types of events. So how do we decide who gets to teach a particular event? We consider a number of things in making a teacher choice:

  1. Certification: All yoga teachers must be certified by a recognized organization.

  2. Experience: How long has the teacher been teaching? How long have then been practicing? Do they have the expertise to teach the event?

  3. Community Involvement: Does this person attend community events and show a willingness to help as needed? Have they referred others to the community and provided input when requested? This is a community and we want to use the talents within the community, where possible. The greater the helpfulness, the greater the likelihood of being chosen to teach events.

  4. Requests: Has the teacher been requested by several members of the community? We want to spread the teaching around the community, so the most requested teacher will not always be the one chosen for an event.

  5. Service: All teachers of large events -- which can be quite profitable for the teacher -- are asked to donate their time for one other event, such as an outreach event.

  6. Availability: While we will try to work around busy schedules, the time that the community needs a teacher has to match a candidate's availability.
  • Community-Wide Events: These events are organized in direct response to the input from the survey and will accommodate a minimum of 40 people. This includes potlucks, seminars, and workshops.

A Teacher application form is coming soon. In the meantime, join the community and indicate your teaching interests under gifts.
